So I have somehow been in the dark about the fact that Philip Glass did a score for a horror movie? About a guy with a hook for a hand and … the bees thing … I don’t even understand how this should come together, but it does. Candyman works as a hodge-podge of ideas that is laser-focused on tone and social commentary. It’s the type of viewing experience where I wonder what has taken me so long to finally be exposed to an iconic horror slasher.

It really meshes with the idea of the Candyman, who can only be scary if people believe in the myth. That’s also why the ending doesn’t make a whole lot of sense as there’s no reason to assume he’s lost any of his make-believe power. Then again, as with any good slasher villain, there’s a number of sequels to retcon all of it, I’m sure.
