For starters, I’m speechless, because even though the feminist inside me hates this movie, I can’t say I didn’t like it. My eyes were glued to the screen the whole time, and I even had to take a short break before the last 30 minutes just to process everything before continuing. The Ugly Stepsister is a fairytale-inspired, very gruesome horror movie with a lot of similarities to Cinderella (which really surprised me). It’s great for horror lovers, delivering plenty of disturbing scenes for people with strong stomachs. It actually reminded me a lot of Black Swan, having a similar vibe and showing kinda the same idea in a different way.
This is one of those movies where you just can’t hate the main character once you get to know her, even if she ends up being kinda annoying and making some questionable (to put it mildly) decisions. All she ever wanted was to be prettier - and who can blame her for that? (It’s her mother to blame, and stupid beauty standards.) Her sister (I already forgot her name lmao) deserved more screen time. I really liked her character and wish we’d seen more of her. The ending was happy and quite satisfying, solving more or less all problems.
Didn’t really know what rating to give it, so here go 5 stars - I mean, why not, right?😅
