Madhukar’s review published on Letterboxd:
I never really know what to expect from Takashi Miike and the two movies I'd seen of his prior to Ichi, was wildly different experience. This was a lot closer to Audition which I loved, mainly in terms of the gore and fucked up set of characters. Although I did think it doesn't really explore trauma and mental health quite like Audition but it does have vibrant set of characters that make up for the lack of depth. I did feel like the movie lost me a bit somewhere in the middle but ends solidly. I'm still not fully sold on him but given the volume of his filmography eventually I'll find more of what works for me.
