Hooptober 12: 7/31

My type of movie. Foggy, dark, mysterious, with a tinge of hopelessness.

From the first scene it was spooky how many parallels The Possessed has with Silent Hill 2 -- the video game, not the upcoming, sure-to-be-a-disaster movie adaptation. A man heads to a lakeside town he once visited in search of a woman who we only see on photographs. He walks around town and is reminded of her at every corner. The fate of that woman, meanwhile, is already decided, and we and the protagonist can do nothing but pick up the pieces.

Of course the similarities end at some point, but it's difficult to believe that some shots here didn't directly influence the oppressive dread of Silent Hill. A really good, gloomy autumn watch.
