Slappy McGee’s review published on Letterboxd:
This movie is hilarious.
In a good way.
Everyone is "IN" on the joke that this is a "bad" movie.
It's a musical with some crazy songs. Pretty damn funny.
The jokes are sometimes corny, but surprisingly laugh-inducing.
Some of the writing is just damned clever at times as well.
As the movie continued, I definitely got SOUTH PARK vibes from it. Then I remembered Trey Parker's first film: Cannibal! The Musical - which is a brilliantly funny live-action musical horror/comedy.
Just like this movie.
So, I thought: "OH, they STOLE the idea from the South Park boys!"
But - NOPE!!! Turns out that this low-budget/musical/horror/comedy was from 1991 and Trey Parker's low-budget/musical/horror/comedy was from 1993!!!
Hey, maybe Trey Parker stole the idea from these guys instead!!!
Ha!
Regardless, these movies are exactly the same style of humor and goofiness. Parker's was filmed a little better... but not much!
Hell, I think if this one would have been filmed a little better and had better practical effects (although they were still pretty good considering they probably did them in the van they rode in to get to the shooting location, which was probably unpermitted)... this might have been a 4 star flick!!
Yeah, I expected this movie to be complete dogshit... but it was a helluva lotta fun, cleverly written at times, funny for the most part, and contained some genuinely silly songs that were fucking catchy.
Go figure.
