While I appreciate the attempt at making Irena appear less psychotic and more powerful in her cat right, it really rarely is successful. The pacing is weird, the scenes are dragging ass a bit.

All the subtleness and psychological ambiguity were traded in favor of bold sexuality and animal rawness which are sensual, yes, but don't deliver the punch. Also losing the Alice rivalry for the absolutely mad Paul and his incestous sibling plotline seemed... questionable at best. I mean, the man was straight tweakin' but you still decide to fucking avenge him because oh the prophecy yeah. Okay.

Visually stunning cinematography and hauntingly beautiful music by Moroder elevate this from a strange remake of a noir classic to a giallo-adjacent classic of its own, though. I mean, you can't NOT vibe with those vibes.
