Hooptober has helped cover some gargantuan horror viewing gaps. Last evening saw another masterful film checked off that has been discussed and dissected for nearly 70 years, and on that note, we will keep things a bit tidier review wise. Alfred Hitchcock’s seminal 1960 visionary slashter-piece, murder-mystery still looks and plays as beautifully & thought out today than any other modern suspense driven film.
Holding everything in place on top of Hitchcock’s meticulous direction, Anthony Perkins gives an incredibly naturalistic performance, especially given the time. In an era full of Transatlantic acting accents, his subtle, measured approach to Norman Bates’ chilling pathos looms over nearly every other psychopathic portrayal since. And somehow makes him super relatable.
Yeah… easy 5 stars, what do ya know?
