Hooptober 12: 5/31

Really enjoyed the isolated, mysterious mountain resort vibes that permeate this film from the opening credits. The hotel itself is a really weird set and the scenes are also sometimes blocked and edited in a strange way, adding to the vibe. I felt that the switch from crime fiction to science fiction fell flat though, so now I'm eager to read the source material. The Strugatsky brothers are usually adept at tying together fringes of genre, so I imagine this was something that went lost in adaptation.
