Hooptober 12 #12
Holy 2006. It's got it all, gore, toilet humor, racism, homophobia, Islamophobia, ableism, mocking vegans and activists, and antisemitism. And yet, the terrible singing is somehow still one of the most offensive parts of the film.
Honestly that really sums up my thoughts. I get that being as crass and tasteless and possible is the point, and to an extent I can get over it just for the sake of the horrifying spectacle of it all. But regardless, a musical with bad songs and choreography is still just a bad musical which will get under my skin in a way that doesn't really feel intended.
Personally I feel like for me get into shock humor, its gotta be supported by some more clever writing or stylistic flair than this movie is able to provide. There are some clever lines in there, but they get lost in all the slop.Though I will give the movie this, it is a really deserved attack on both American fast food consumerism. It takes a few jabs at the genocide of Native Americans too. Stuff like that makes it clear all the offensive stuff is said in jest, and the creative team doesn't actually believe in any of the vile shit in the movie. Still, that doesn't really make saying or doing it any better.
This really isn't for me, I can't deny the absurdity of this existing at all.
