Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning
★½

Odd, that this 3rd entry of the "Ginger Snaps" trilogy was actually released the same year as the 2nd entry. I didn't look into at all, so I'm not aware of what led into this unusual marketing decision, but there ya go.

This is supposed to be a PREQUEL... but story-wise, it is not at all. It actually doesn't make any sense in the logic of trying to connect the stories... but I don't think they gave a fuck. My guess is that they got a script and decided to link it with the original actresses (who are both back cast as sisters again) to the original film, and plot be damned!

The biggest problem I had was that in the original film, the one sister "Ginger" is bitten/infected by a random werewolf not a family werewolf legacy or some shit. So it just doesn't track with this one.

So, you just have to kind of throw that thought away.
I mean the producers did, soooooo... we must too.

That aside, this is apparently set in 19th century Canada, which is why is seems like early colonial times. Werewolf legends (as well as Witch legends) always seem to play well in this time period.

However, what makes the "Ginger Snaps" first two films fun is the "MODERN-NESS" of the werewolf legend. The style. The language. All that seems cool in this franchise. And for this film... all that is thrown away.

I mean, the script is RIDDLED with anachronisms. The language used is jarring sometimes because it's so out of place with the time period. I have to think that they did this on purpose, but it does not work for me here at all. Just sloppy.

I thought this was an extremely disappointing ending for this trilogy.
