Hooptober 12: #20
[Criteria: 4/4 films based on a novel]
There's no better way to kick off the spooky month than a John Carpenter movie and holy shit what an insane movie. Anti-car propaganda has never been this effective and scary, and Carpenter pulls it off with so much sinister guile. Inanimate objects have never been this terrifying, like a fucking terminator that does not know how to lose and cannot be killed. The Stephen King touches are aplenty but it's Carpenter who elevates this story to something sublime.
PS: for my fellow Indians, this is like Tarzan the Wonder Car if it was literal incarnation of everything evil!
