Right off the bat, the first thing that came to my mind was Varda's incredibly creepy yet damning Le Bonheur and in many ways The Stepford Wives and Le Bonheur share majority of the themes but more significantly it exposes the fetishisation of tradwives and the way men romanticise the way the domesticated and submissive wife and household. The slow erosion of a woman's individuality to become a dead eyed doll whose only purpose is to be in service of her man and the children is chilling yet so real. Fucking terrifying!
