Slappy McGee’s review published on Letterboxd:
This poorly written film is saved by a solid performance of a law enforcement weirdo given by real-life weirdo Dennis Hopper. And since he's in most of the scenes of the movie, he lifts the script out of the garbage and cleans it off pretty well. Such an interesting and engaging actor to watch.
He kidnaps his victim less than 10 minutes into the movie, and tries to "train her up" with a points system that's deeply ingrained into his broken psyche.
Unfortunately for the movie, his victim is played by talentless nepo-baby Asia Argento. And she is ALSO in almost every scene in the movie. Ugh.
However, we do get a great supporting performance from Helen Shaver whose character develops a psychotic stalker-love for Hopper. Hell, she almost OUT-PSYCHO'S Hopper himself!
That is some of the more interesting stuff in the film.
And I was ready to give this movie a 3.5 or 4.0... but... this movie ends so badly, that I almost threw the dvd case across the room and ended up giving it a 1-star. (Then I had a drink and cooled off and raised my rating to a more respectable 3.0 stars which is actually more representative of my enjoyment of this as a whole.)
Oh... and one of the alt covers shows the girl in a birdcage (an allusion to the famous underground hollywood stories of the illuminati doing the same thing in their rituals)... but this is stupid marketing fucking around with shit again. The cage is a big ol' jail cell in the basement complete with a shower and bed and such. Not the Ritz, but not a damn birdcage either. I hate that kind of manipulative marketing. Sumbitches.
