“Have you been touched by God?”
“Yes, a little… I am new to this.”

This is why organised religion is fucked up. Faith built upon rules and prejudice decided by man, horrifically outdated, and used by fragile people in power to control others. The trap of community is turned against those looking for it and the underlying messages of love, peace, hope, and support are lost.

This is about a girl who comes to a small town, has some legit supernatural transfiguring, and sets about challenging and reinterpreting religious views. Naturally, the locals don’t like it and shit starts to get messy for her and her friends.

It’s solid and beautiful but holds back on really escalating or leaning into the horror tones. Even though it’s clear something otherworldly is afoot, it’s kept ambiguous on the source and scale of the power. It never snapped and went really batshit, and the comeuppance I was manifesting never came. There’s an intentional choice to focus on the grounded message of the story over the spectacle, and it’s well executed.

I woulda called it Heretic Bitch and things woulda got bloody.

“We will write everything again.”
