Dawn of the Dead (1978) is one of those movies that I could see being remade solely due to how increasingly relevant its themes of consumerism and humanity have become. I was expecting as much in the 2004 remake. But instead it seems to concern itself less with building off some of those themes and instead focuses on doing its own thing and it totally works. At its core it’s a movie driven by hope and humility. The beginning opens with the people in conflict with one another and just when you think it’s just gonna be another “survivor vs survivor in the zombie apocalypse” movie… they choose to trust each other. By the third act they all have developed this close bond that really drives the movie
