The French New Wave: taking all the subtext out of cinematic conversation and just letting your male leads straight up ask women “Will you sleep with me?” over and over and over again 😅

Ok but seriously, I’m a very big fan of the jazzy, low-budget, “laissez-faire” vibes that we see in a lot of films from the 1950s and 1960s and Breathless is obviously one of the key entries in not only the French New Wave movement but in film history in general - the stunning black-and-white, the jump-cuts, the frank and casual conversations on crime and sex, and the effortless beauty of Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg (the influencers of today would probably need HUNDREDS of takes to look even half as good as these two did) and the film’s influential legacy are just a few of the reasons that make a classic worthy of your time!
