LSC Week 10: Fringe Cinema

This was one of the harder watches I've endured in quite some time. I watched it for week ten of the Letterboxd Season Challenge, and while I genuinely appreciate the theme for this week, I absolutely chose the wrong film. It took me five days of giving up and forcing myself back to finish this ordeal.
Having no budget doesn't automatically make a film bad... but this one genuinely is. Squatch Junkies isn't even entertaining in a "so bad it's good" way; it's just unwatchable. The writing is bland, the acting is both over the top and lifeless at the same time, but the true dealbreaker is the sound design: There's this ever-present layer of static humming throughout the entire runtime that genuinely had me questioning my sanity.
I tried to go in with an open mind. The poster especially looked incredible! I was actually really looking forward to this entry, hoping for a scrappy, low-budget passion project. Instead, what I got ended up being a mess and, while I know it's not supposed to be taken this seriously, I can't, in good conscience, give Squatch Junkies anything higher than half a star.
