Hooptober 12: #13
[Criteria: 2/4 films based on novels]
I mean this with no disrespect but it felt like watching a Madhur Bhandarkar movie, though better and more unhinged on every single level. So many gorgeous looking frames that hide the insanity just below the surface mimicking the lead character's physical and mental state. I was horrified many times not exactly with the depiction but how prevalent highly invasive and damaging plastic surgeries are in east asian pop and modeling industries and how many people in real life suffer from body dysmorphia because of these unrealistic beauty standards. Would've loved it a lot more had it been a little less on the nose but still a great film.
