Slappy McGee’s review published on Letterboxd:
Unlike a lot of folks, I really enjoyed the last part of this movie. I thought it was the BEST part of the film. And it was REALLY fun!!!
It was the opening hour and a half that really bored the fuck out of me.
But - for me - the ending was so KICK-ASS that I ended up really digging this horror flick. (And the opening gives you no indication that it even IS a horror flick... but the ending most definitely is!)
I'm also not a big fan of star Michael B. Jordan who I think usually plays only one emotion/one character in ALL of his movies. But in this one, I think he's grown a little bit. He's playing twins, and does some good things. Wellllllll......... at least he doesn't suck as bad as he does in MOST of his films I'm still not a fan, but I can at least see some improvement. He still SUCKS as one of Hollywood's least talented actors currently working... but in this movie, he sucks less.
However, I absolutely LOVE ANYTHING that Delroy Lindo does. He always brings the goods! Such a talented and interesting character actor. Love that dude.
Also, writer/director Ryan Coogler just knows how to make a movie. I think his writing is a bit bloated in this, but his direction is solid and he continues to prove himself time and time again.
Overall... this one is pretty damn good.
