Oh my god I feel so bad for this man. This movie is "horrific" in a completely different way than most other horror movies. The existential dread and fear of being left behind that a society that doesn't care about you is really upsetting to think about. This is made all the more palpable by the frantic, dream-like editing and Lincoln Maazel's absolutely heartbreaking performance.
George Romero should be known less as the zombie-guy and more as the incredibly socially conscious filmmaker that he was.
