Hooptober 12 2/31
Based on the video game series Onechanbara is surprisingly just kind of dull. Evil corporation experiments with reviving technology and creates zombies. Aya in her bikini and cowboy hat fight them. The fight scenes are fine. We get the light slashes with every sword swing which is fun and reminiscent of the game. Then her sister shows up and we get family lore and a sister on sister sword fight in the highlight of the film. We get them glowing with energy powers giving it a video game feel. Felt like it was trying to be Tokyo Gore Police by way of Takashi Miike’s Like a Dragon but not as fun as either of them. Wild that what is essentially a T&A cheesecake movie doesn't lean into the camp.
