Psycho IV: The Beginning
★½

It seems like hack horror director Mick Garris tiptoed into the "PSYCHO" franchise clubhouse, took out his butcher knife and <bhacked everyone (and everything vital to the franchise) the fuck to death.

Anthony Perkins is back as Norman Bates and most of the show he's simply on the phone telling a DJ Shock Jock all about his past life and how he became a psycho killer.

The DJ is played by the always solid performing CCH Pounder, who probably gives the best performance in this Part 4 of the franchise. Of course, that's not a high bar as the acting is truly atrocious in this one.

Young Norman Bates is played by an awkwardly gangly Henry Thomas who is riding the wave of his "E.T." fame as he transitions from a teenager into adulthood. He doesn't do well here.

And the other casualty of war is the lovely (but batshit crazy - not her fault) Olivia Hussey who plays Norman's mother Norma. And, sadly, it's the most poorly written character in the film. A trash heap of a writing job on her. ...sigh...

Well... at last 3 of the Psycho films were good.
