*** "Oh, Norman, you're mad. Don't you know that? Mad as a hatter." ***
Well... starting the sequel with a RE-SHOWING of the MOST FAMOUS SHOWER SCENE OF ALL-TIME was a good call.
Plus a callback/tribute to it later on... works extremely well.
Lots of talent in this sequel (which comes about 22-23 years after the original was released). Anthony Perkins is back as Norman Bates. Released from the nuthouse, he's going back to his house and motel.
Not the wisest choice... for the locals.
You get Vera Miles back as Mrs. Loomis (sister to the victim from the aforementioned shower scene). You also get a great performance from a young Meg Tilly in a very sizeable role.
Plus great character parts for both Robert Loggia and Dennis Franz.
It's a great cast. Then a master cinematographer Dean Cundey behind the lens... and ol' Jerry Goldsmith serving up the score! Bam!
I'm sure it was daunting trying to follow up one of the best classical horror films of all time... but this is a damned good sequel!!!
Well worth checking out!!!
Plus, you'll never cut a sandwich the same way again.
So... there's that.
