China's first ever horror film turned out to be an excellent adaptation of the timeless 'Phantom of the Opera' that combined the haunting story with the struggles of left wing revolutionaries during turbulent time. Even on a fairly shitty print with terrible translation I was moved, and what stood out to be was how terrifying the makeup was. Loved the musical performances that is the soul of the story! Wish there was a better print out there though, it would've made the whole experience far more memorable.
