"In the Heart of the Sea" from Ron Howard is as messy and inconsistent as the cast's accents.

There's moments here and there that I loved, everything involving the whale (which is much less than you'd hope) is great and the VFX are fantastic. But in contrast, there's just as many moments that are boring, flat or uninteresting and the characters being so bland isn't exactly helping things. Plus, I can only presume the entire VFX budget went on the whale because holy crap some of those landscape shots are horrendous!! Like some of the worst I've ever seen in a film, let alone a modern one.

I didn't hate it by any means, I at least had fun with the fish parts. But, it's not great and I'm certainly not in any rush to recommend it to anyone.
