“The world is a sea of blood.”

Demons, finally. But I put it on and realised I didn’t know a thing about it. Had hit the watchlist on vibes and ratings alone.

It’s a play. A gorgeous, masterful play. Literally based on a kabuki, the stage format is carried across with small character groups, contained sets, and specific lighting and framing, but it also takes advantage of the film format by seamlessly blending in dreams, visions, or imagined tangents and paths of action.

It’s beautiful to look at but it’s also very very patient. I had to adjust my expectations and settle into it. It’s a theatrical drama with a few elements of horror woven into its themes. There’s a couple moments of brutality, more in theme than show, but it’s not without a lil blood. It’s grand. Shakespearean in its plot fuckery.

I started out a lil disappointed with its measured and methodical pace but the excessive runtime gave me time to settle into its wavelength. By the end I was in deep. It won me over.

Like a 9/10.

I especially liked the part where he rides the motorbike through the theatre and cuts people down with his sword.
