Irish is the constitutionally national and first official language of the Republic of Ireland. However, since the late eighteenth century, English has been the predominant first language, displacing Irish; although a large minority claim some ability to use Irish, and it is the first language for a small percentage of the population.
Nonetheless, as a Gaeilgeoir (meaning an Irish speaker or learner), I thought I would collate a list of films that feature the Irish language in some fashion, either fully or partly.

Films that only feature Irish with a throwaway line will not be included, i.e. Million Dollar Baby's use of Mo Chuisle (which is mispronounced and misspelled in the film as "mo cuishle") embroidered on a boxing robe; or something like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which butchered a new Dublin bus lane announcement as a 'summoning spell' in S4, E4 - Fear, Itself. Other omissions include films that only feature Irish in the title and not in dialogue, and films that use a fantasy construct of the language, intermix and/or conflate it with other Goidelic (Irish, Manx, Scottish Gaelic) or Brittonic/Brythonic (Breton, Cornish, Welsh) languages.
Some films (especially short films) are not listed as they are not on Letterboxd, for these I will list them by name, release year, and director, so others can find them if they wish:
🎥 Buddy (2011), dir. Pat Comer
🎥 An Rinceoir (2011), dir. Elaine Gallagher
🎥 Washed Up Love (2011), dir. Dylan Cotter
The majority of these missing shorts above can be found as part of Screen Ireland's Gearrscannáin as Gaeilge.
This list is a work in progress and will be updated accordingly. I welcome any suggestions for films I have missed or not yet added.
