As with a lot of these, I like the premise more than the executions😈. Setup seems like we’re possibly getting a feminist slasher with a message about misogyny/the porn industry/etc. We sort of get that, but at times it also just felt like an excuse to show some boob. (Parent tip: this is not a great movie to try and watch in the bleachers of your sons little league tournament).
Adam DiMarco with this and The White Lotus is getting typecast as the sad boy that falls in love with a sex worker and tries to rescue her.

This week was my pick with the #SlasherSaturday crew, and all bias aside, I didn't know this one had a Canadian connection!
I wasn't expecting to see familiar talent, such as Montreal actress Erin Agostino who way back when used to run in the same circles as me, and was close friends with a few actors who helped bring my scripts to life at readings in my living room. I don't know for sure if she ever really attended but she was always on my invite list, and I believe I saw one of her plays or productions? That was ages ago. Nice throwback for slasher enthusiasts, and I loved how this stuck to genre formulas without getting highbrow or pretentious. The backstory sequence that opens the film is a highlight, but this little Canadian indie sustains its momentum with numerous fun kills, choice nudity and some good chuckles along the way.
Obviously a movie that takes place in a house where girls live while constantly on camera doing x-rated stuff is somewhat problematic just because of that, but also because any real life versions of this are generally completely staged. I mean, I don’t know of any hetero porn sites (at all really) but I know there’s a real life gay site equivalent of what you see in this movie called Fraternity X, but even without proof I am certain all of the “shenanigans” there are completely directed. There isn’t really a house full of straight frat boys who are so horny 24/7 that they all just fuck each other nonstop but it’s certainly a moneymaking concept baby!

The beginning bored me a bit, but by the middle of the movie I was liking it, more in the part where the killer starts killing. The man was crazy, he didn't accept any criticism and mockery towards him because he murders you.♡

GirlHouse or: The SLAY-boy Mansion
There's a lot to appreciate here from excellent technicalities, savage slashings, & an effectively disturbing tone. Most of the acting is surprisingly decent, too.
There's more male gaze moments than I prefer in my weekly slasher, but seeing as how this takes place in a Sor-Whore-ity house & is kinda sex-positivish, all the boobs & live [& dead] nudes are plot purposed for a change.
The two main themes that I think the film wanted to tackle are def honorable:
1. misogyn = violence
2. anti-bullying (<- a guilty favorite of mine)

A fun sex positive slasher. The slasher’s motive is cliche but the screenplay was smart and engaging, so I was hooked throughout the runtime. The lead character’s performance was great and the rest of the cast were okay. The humor was pretty good and the direction was neat. The kills starts around the last 40 minutes but they were thrilling. Killer finish too. An entertaining one time watch.
A solid 70% for this.
