Asian ghostly revenge story about a cursed plastic surgery practice? Yeah, I’m down! I actually saw this back in 2007 after it was released, but my library streaming service has lots of the old Tartan Asia Extreme titles available so here we are.
The story is your basic “pissed off girl ghost comes back to tear some shit up” story that is pretty common to these movies, but the setting is original and it’s well filmed with some well executed scenes. There are a couple of parts that don’t make a lot of sense and the ending seemed a tad abrupt, but whatever I love all these 00’s Tartan releases. Nostalgia.

When this came out I skipped it because of the glut of ghost stories that were coming out at the time. What a fool I was.
This is a great film. Stylish as hell, creepy, unbearably sad and a story that is about so much more than a ghost scaring people.
When the film started, I sat back, expecting to enjoy a "cursed plastic surgery" film. But as the layers are peeled off (like some characters' faces) this is more about family, beauty and love. And how it can become distorted when it's as false as plastic surgery.
An incredible film that is in the upper echelon of South Korean horror.

This is a good ghost and broken promises story.
Basement for the real child, cause shes burnt, and kidnapped lost pretty child getting the real luxury life. Ommah giving all the affection to her fake daughter is like a gut punch. No wonder there's carnage, go on yersel burnt Cinders.
Sidenote, I'd like to know the fake child's previous story. Why did she fling herself at any mammy going?

When patients of Hyeon-su’s cosmetic surgeon mother start killing themselves by slashing their faces, Hyeon-su begins down a dark path that ends with an even darker secret. An interesting blend of horror and melodrama, Cinderella is both disturbing and heart-wrenching.At times it was a little confusing, but this sad story of obsession and the lengths people will go to assuage their guilt is a twisted gut-punch.
I think this version of Cinderella would make the Brothers Grimm proud. 👍👍
The first half is slow IMO.
But after that it really gets into the story.
It’s full of flashbacks going back and forth, which kind of gets confusing, but I got the gist of it all.
My only gripe with it all is that it’s super dark, and I don’t mean in tone. It’s just a really dark movie with a lot of the plot taking place in a basement with zero lighting. Usually the only light comes from a lighter or a cell phone flashlight. 🤷♂️
I don’t know, I just think it could’ve been lighted better.
Other than that, I think it’s a sweet horror mystery with a decent twist. 👌
Definitely not a version of Cinderella for kids.

This is one those Tartan Asia Extreme titles that I’ve wanted to see for a while but never gotten the chance to watch or even purchase til this month.
Shame it’s not one that I consider among my favorites. Granted, it’s not bad at all. I’m fact, it’s really fucking good. Not great, but really solid. This is especially true with the acting which is one of the best I’ve seen in an Asian horror movie in a while.
Sadly, it doesn’t go the extra mile and really delve into it’s amazing themes and parallels to the Cinderella fairy tale. It’s too content with being good but not amazing.
This is one I really want to love, but I’m glad I watched. I might even watch it again with friends if I feel like it. Maybe it will be better on second watch.
