I decided to watch it without knowing anything about the story; I hadn't even seen a trailer, just a slight buzz surrounding it. It's funny that the title mentions a mummy, and from the opening scene, it seems like that will be the focus, but as it unfolds, it's more like a possession and exorcism film than anything else. The gore was what caught my attention the most; I didn't expect so much, even the off-screen deaths have a generousβ¦
I thought what they did in this film was a great idea: putting men in a place that women have always been. And here are six men experiencing it all: they are sexualized, they are harassed, they are insecure about their own bodies and age, etc. It's a very interesting role reversal that yields good comic moments. So, it's still a comedy movie (which made me laugh at several moments), but it also opens up space for debates and interpretations.β¦
It's amazing how a 1982 film manages to be much more mature than a lot of current production (which portrays the same subject). Basically, "Making Love" is about a man married to a woman, who goes on to find out about his sexuality. And it's all done in a very respectful and conscious way, even if at that time, certain terms weren't as present as they are today (like bisexuality, but I don't think that's the case with the protagonist).β¦
