The Fanatic pales in comparison to the masterpiece that is Gotti, but yet, it still shows a great deal of acting prowess from John Travolta. Speaking of which, Travolta has had an interesting couple of years, as of late. Throughout the 2010s, Travolta has been repeatedly shit on by critics who don't understand his natural acting talent. In 2010, he was in the amazing "From Paris with Love", in 2012 he pulled a sublime performance in "Savages", In 2015 he was a brilliant actor, almost indistinguishable from his real self in "Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief" and lest we forget "Life on the Line" AND on top of that "Criminal Activities". Despite how amazing all of those films are, most critics seemed to revile them. 2018 was the biggest embarrassment for critics with "Gotti" a masterpiece I've already talked about in great detail in a review I wrote just last year. So that's the context of what's been happening critically with John Travolta, now let's discuss The Fanatic.
The Fanatic is the story of how Fred Durst's house got broken into once back in 1999, when people still pretended to care about Limp Bizkit, and how Durst exaggerated one tiny incident into being an entire film. This movie makes King of Comedy look like Joker, and it makes Joker look like The Fanatic. John Travolta gives the most offensive portrayal of a mentally handicapped person I've seen all year. His mannerisms are a subtle mix of being a complete psychopath and an alien completely disconnected from human culture. The soundtrack sounds like Fred Durst farted into a microphone and slowed it down, especially in the scene where Stan stabs The Mars Travolta with a sharpie. Even Christopher Nolan would be taking notes during this scene. Speaking of Stan, Stan is in this movie, and just as you'd expect, he is masterful. I didn't even care to look up the actor's name, because that's how much I adore this film. Everything hear is great, it's a real Tour de Fart of film making. Only the best films open with the line "I gotta poo." So yes, 9/10 I loved it.
