Oedipus Rex

This is Pier Paolo Pasolini turning myth into something raw and almost alien. It strips the story down and then rebuilds it with this stark, ritualistic intensity that makes everything feel immediate and inevitable.
The imagery does most of the work. Harsh landscapes, non-naturalistic performances, and that sense of being trapped inside a fate you can’t reason your way out of. It’s not trying to be psychological in a modern sense. It’s more like watching a curse unfold in real…

Pee-wee's Big Adventure
★★★★★ Liked Rewatched

Hilarious and quietly horrific in that way only childhood remembers correctly. A movie that understands how terror and wonder sit side by side when you’re young…basements, clowns, strangers, authority figures, all filtered through bright colors and fearless absurdity. Tim Burton’s world is strange, but it’s Paul Reubens who makes it humane.
Pee-wee isn’t dumb, he’s curious. He isn’t weak, he’s gentle. The comedy comes from sincerity, not cruelty, and that’s why it lasts. Watching this now feels like returning to…

Descent Into Darkness: My European Nightmare
★★★★ Watched

Yikes! This is a nasty, mean-spirited descent that keeps finding new ways to make you uncomfortable. What starts as an awkward travelogue gradually mutates into something much darker, and the commitment to the bit is what sells it. The found-footage approach feels alarmingly convincing at times, making the whole thing harder to shake than a lot of bigger horror films. It’s ugly, unpleasant, and often difficult to watch, but it works because it never flinches from the consequences of its…

Cut and Run
★★★ Watched

Cut and Run isn’t nearly as sharp or psychologically corrosive as Cannibal Holocaust or The House on the Edge of the Park, but you can absolutely smell the same rot in the walls. Ruggero Deodato still understands how to make exploitation feel sweaty, cruel, and morally contaminated.
This thing moves though. Less “sit in human ugliness until you feel sick” and more jungle nightmare adventure where every ten minutes somebody gets shot, eaten, exploded, or betrayed. The pacing honestly helps…

Daily Horror Hunt #50 (August 2022)
(23) Women working behind-the-scenes in cinema is always a treat to see. Watch a horror film edited/co-edited by a woman.

Wow! I’m almost speechless. This is an amazing film. No notes! (Ok…maybe some CGI bear qualms.)

Seriously, I love the first and like the  second Predator, but this is so much more compelling.

It takes the simple formula of The Predator and use it to craft a question about what strength means. It has…

Stage Fright

I want to live in the alternate universe where Stagefright became a huge franchise and each subsequent was known as Stagefright: Zodiac Sign.

StageFright: Libra- An Owl-headed killer wreaks havoc on an opera company practicing for opening night.

StageFright: Cancer- An Owl-headed killer wreaks havoc on a synchronized swimming team practicing for opening night.

StageFright: Taurus An Owl-headed killer wreaks  havoc on a Rodeo team practicing for opening night.

StageFright: Virgo An Owl-headed killer wreaks  havoc on a burlesque company…
