3D at the Oscars

While the idea of 3D films really peaked in the late 2000s to early 2010s, the idea for making images appear three-dimensional has existed since before film even began, and the earliest patents for 3D processes date back to the 1890s. For a long time, films would use 3D as a sort of gimmick, even long before the big boom post Avatar. But regardless, it is a major technical feat that has a long history.

These are the 3D films that got Oscar nominations. It is ordered by the year in which the film received its 3D release.
