Welcome to year three of #52comediesatm, where we've somehow convinced you that watching 52 comedies in a year is a reasonable use of your time. (Spoiler: it absolutely is.)
Whether you're a returning veteran who's already exhausted your Buster Keaton watchlist or a fresh-faced newcomer wondering how many Peter Sellers films is "too many" (there is no such number), this challenge is your excuse to dive deep into comedy cinema—from silent slapstick to modern mockumentaries, from screwball classics to whatever Troma was thinking.

This year we're rotating in new directors, swapping countries, and adding some spicy new categories like "The Great" in the title (because apparently one Great Dictator wasn't enough for cinema), Pixar OR Studio Ghibli animation (choose your own emotional devastation), and a Best Picture winner (yes, comedies occasionally win things). We've also given you options on physical media releases and countries, because we're benevolent overlords who understand decision paralysis is half the fun.
The Rules:You don't need to watch the categories in any particular order. Watch the films in whatever order you want—chaos is encouraged.New watches are recommended but rewatches are allowed if you've seen anything in a particular category. If you're rewatching a film, mark it with 🔁 in your diary entry.Short films are ineligible for this challenge. For our purposes, a "short film" is anything under 40 minutes. This is a feature-length comedy challenge, so we're looking for full meals, not appetizers. Exception: Silent comedies from the 1910s and 1920s are eligible regardless of runtime, because Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, and their contemporaries worked in an era where short films were the standard format, and those filmmakers deserve their flowers.Make sure to use the #52comediesatm hashtag on diary entries and your lists! How else will we know you're suffering alongside us?
