Showdown: To Live and Die in LA

Visit here for the current topic and join in the fun.

Forget it, Jake—it’s Showdown. With Noirvember officially upon us, bust out your UV-protective trench coat and Double Indemnity-style Stanwyck shades for this week’s theme: LA noir. It’s a subgenre categorized by sun-baked detectives, starry-eyed dames and hard-boiled titles that start with “The Big ___”. While many films, especially the classics, were shot in LA, the story must also be set in the City of Angels to be eligible. Modern neo-noir counts, too, meaning you can cruise from 1950’s Sunset Boulevard to 2001’s Mulholland Drive and beyond.
