There are gallons of issues with this movie but…
The first half of the movie is rushed and feels like an iMovie trailer then in the middle and final act (which is decent to say the least. Which I'm giving a lot of points for btw and the kills.) which feels like an Imovie trailer but not so much. I knew nothing about this movie beforehand. I hadn't even seen a trailer, but I saw a new horror movie was out, and I try to see as many of horror movies as possible. Sadly, I didn't care for this. Some gruesome, gnarly kills don't make up for a clichéd stalker killer in the wood's story with bland, uninspired characters. It was also hard to see certain scenes because the movie isn't very well lit at times. It's been a good year for horror movies so far, and even if tonight wasn't very fruitful in the quest to find the next horror gem, I'm always on the lookout, and I know some underrated ones will come along soon.

When the film leans into its horror elements, it works more often than not. The (biggest) problem is that it's padded with too much unnecessary fluff LOL. An excessive amount of time is devoted to the melodrama between the brother and sister, and it eventually becomes exhausting, dragging the pacing down with it. There are also too many scenes of the character trapped in the pit, hallucinating or dreaming up some ridiculous nonsense. It’s dumb. These additions are what ultimately hold the film back.
Tho, there's something refreshing about its straightforward approach as a backwoods slasher. It feels like the kind of movie that would've been released in the mid-2000’s. The acting is hella weak, but the death scenes and…

Pitfall’s biggest strength lies in its pacing and commitment to practical effects. When Scott (Marshall Williams) plunges into that 10-foot spike trap, the movie shifts into overdrive. The makeup and gore work are agonizingly realistic, making the audience feel every ounce of his panic. Richard Harmon steals every scene he is in, bringing a grounded, frantic energy to the desperate rescue mission, while MMA legend Randy Couture makes for a genuinely terrifying, physically imposing threat in the woods.

James Kondelik’s Pitfall is a horror thriller film. The film takes place after a young man gets separated from his friends while in the woods, he falls into a 10-foot deep pit of spikes, impaling him through the leg, and leaving him trapped. He quickly learns that his fall was not an accident. The film stars Marshall Williams, Richard Harmon, Brenna Llewellyn, Matt Hamilton, Alexandra Essoe, Jordan Claire Robbins, and Randy Couture.
The film’s ensemble cast led by Williams all gives harrowing, intense, charismatic performances. The screenplay drags in certain aspects of its narrative but it’s highly entertaining. The kills are cleverly brutal. The cinematography and score is haunting. It’s a good popcorn film that doesn’t need to be taken seriously to enjoy it.

127 Hours if it were Wrong Turn - Pitfall is an intriguing “cat-and-mouse” game of a horror film. Featuring practical effects & a production design which feel lived in. Impressively detailed, for its budget. Yet, some of its actors hail from The Hallmark Channel. And you feel that, unfortunately. The stilted acting weighing down the script. That being said, Richard Harmon’s comedic timing is unmatched.
This would be a lean, mean feature if it were trimmed down by 10-15 minutes. At its current runtime (of 110-minutes) this thing is WAY too fucking long, overstaying its welcome. So much so, the movie has two opening scenes.
Nothing Like the video game i played growing up and this movie could have been called something else to make it seem different. Group of friends and brother and sister after losing their parents come to terms during onslaught bloody, gory kills amid one trapped and seeing things. Alex Essoe is always a plus.
My favorite horror sub-genre is Richard Harmon in the woods.
This one is a definite mixed bag.

Runtime way too long, keeps repeating the same plot points.
Overall if you want to see some brutal kills you might want to ffwd and just get to the good stuff. Last half hour is pretty gross.
