Non-2019 First Time Watches Ranked
Writers Ranked: Sylvester Stallone
Film #5 of my Birth Year Challenge
This was such an abandonment of what made the first Rambo film so great and to be honest, if I didn't know what this franchise turned into, I'd have been really disappointed with this. However, because I knew these turned into dumb fucking action films, I was prepared and what I got was...a dumb fucking action film.
Despite their being no plot, I kinda liked the acting in this one from Charles Napier and, of course, Sly himself. Again, it had nothing on the first Rambo, but as far as dumb fucking action films goes, the performances in this one were good.
There were some great sequences in this one too, specifically the helicopter sequence. That shit was bonkers. Rambo just laying waste to the enemies was awesome. Also, that first shot of the chopper with the sun behind it was lowkey great as well.
And speaking of enemies, I liked that while there were Russian enemies and Vietnamese enemies, the main enemy isn't an evil foreigner as so many of these dumb fucking action films do, but an american. It's a little thing but I believe it warrants mentioning.
Watching Sly lay waste to shit with RPG's and a helicopter is pretty fucking entertaining, but this is no Vietnamese war drama...
