One of the coolest experiences of my life and an honor to be involved in.
Here’s some various lore:
• I was initially contacted by producer Josh Goldbloom (the greatest dude of all time) and director Ryan Prows (the other greatest dude of all time) via the HardLore email with their idea to help arrange an original soundtrack for the movie.
They sent us the script, and upon reading the name of Freddie Gibbs’ character “BORNELIUS” I was fully on board.
The goal was a Judgement Night homage, with original songs by hardcore bands and rappers together. I loved the idea and was 100% in, but once I explained the budget of what it would cost just to engineer something…
Not the campy film you may be expecting - it's a lot more serious than its premise might indicate, even though it does have some pretty wild twists and reveals. It's like if a Ryan Murphy project played it straight, almost, with how much stuff is crammed together. Feels like it's trying to say something but can't quite find the right words.
Good cast full of non-actors (or at least people whose primary occupation is something other than acting). Loved the performances from Justin Long and Jermaine Fowler together - their relationship feels central to the film's themes of what constitutes good policing, and if it's even possible. RJ Cyler also stands out, I'd love to see him in more…
SINNERS IF RYAN COOGLER HAD ABSOLUTELY ZERO TALENT.
Seriously what the f_ck was that?! I'm embarrassed for Justin Long and CM Punk. I'm embarrassed for the person or persons who wrote this incoherent mess. I'm astounded and legitimately offended by how atrocious this was?!
On the bright side the worst is already over. There's no freakin' way I see another film as bad as Night Patrol this year. So terrible I postponed my review for The Bone Temple just to rant against it.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
no thoughts just vampire justin long
The LOWLIFE(!!) gang is back and Im thrilled to say this blend of Dennis Hopper’s COLORS meets NEAR DARK works a damn charm.
I dig Prows’ filmmaking prowess for sure.
Extra points for the Michael Dudikoff references.
I expected way more from this movie, unfortunately I didn't like it that much. The acting was good and the gore looked pretty good. But I found the story to be pretty slow and not that interesting maybe it's because I was tired.
Overall I don't think that this was that good of a movie, wouldn't really suggest it.
The Anti-Sinners. An interesting premise and a decent first 10 minutes followed by 90 minutes of liquid dogshit that made me want to slap everyone involved.
January has been unexpectedly stacked for horror fans, and Ryan Prows’ grittily humorous, socially charged vampire-thriller, Night Patrol, kept the ball rolling wonderfully. Through a cast that I can only assume will age like a fine wine over time, Night Patrol offers a sleazy fun, exploitative slice of stylish horror, which both warrants a relaxation of one’s critical film brain, while also offering critiques on societal and police structuring without beating its viewer over the head. At the end of the day, we get a fairly likable set of Bloods and Crips putting aside lifelong vendettas while believing in shapeshifters, energy pyramids, Zulu warriors and vamp-demons to battle a gang of undead police officers. Very fun genre stuff.
Night Patrol…
