Hooptober XII: Bloodline
The time between Hooptober seasons feels longer each year. I've been at this for 8 years, but its never felt as vital or timely as this year. A celebration of horror films is the essence of life in hard times.
In that sense, the title of my list is not only a tribute to Hellraiser: Bloodline, but a representation of what horror means to me and the genre itself. Blood is one of the oldest, maybe even first, iconic element in horror. Films in particular gave it life through thick and thin splatters and sprays, watery reds and deep syrupy maroons, overt and implied bloodletting. Blood can sustain and drown, engulfing heroes to their eyes or starving villains to dust. Blood gives horror its color. A bloodline then is easy to trace, given the diversity of its forms.
Long story short, I'm including a few films titled after our sanguinous life energy. Hopefully, I pick the bloodiest of the pack and I hope don't faint at the sight.
A side note: I used THIS incredible article by Rob Binns to fill out some requirements.
