I'm doing something different this time. I struggle to complete these scavenger hunt lists with 100% completion. I abandoned my list last year and instead binge-watched specific sub-genres, including Universal Monsters and nearly every major slasher franchise.
For the uninitiated, Hooptober is the long-running Letterboxd community challenge created by David Hood (aka Cinemonster) in 2014. It’s a 31-film, mid-Sept-to-Oct watch/review party built as a tribute to Tobe Hooper—“you can’t spell October without Tobe”—with fresh rules each year. Hood started it after moving into a spooky house, wanting parameters that were fun but flexible; participation ballooned into the hundreds over the years.
Got it? Good.
My focus subthemes of this year's Hooptober extravaganza are:
1. Haunted Houses
2. Witches
3. Werewolves
4. B-movie Stephen King adaptations
And many countries and zombies and ... Wizard of Oz?
