It's been a while since I’ve seen a Dick Maas joint, and boy, didn’t he disappoint! Plus, apparently this marked his return to the horror genre after almost a decade.
A gory, bloody, violent horror film in which St. Nicholas, aka Santa Claus and his elves become these murderous, evil assassins seeking revenge every Christmas after he got brutally murdered back in 1492.
Unlike some recent films that embrace iconic IP and appear overly serious, this one recognizes its uniqueness and embraces a playful tone without delving into self-parody. The kills are pretty gory. The makeup work is really great. The cinematography was surprisingly great, really well shot, setting up the mood. The CGI isn’t the best but it adds…
I enjoyed this quite a bit - let down by a ridiculous English dub, which is on me I guess - couldn’t take anything seriously due to the insane line deliveries - not that this film deserves to be taken seriously.
Another entry into the Christmas Horror list. You can check it out HERE
Oh lawdy this movie was boring (ᴗ˳ᴗ)
SOOOOO ヽ(°〇°)ノ
BOOOOOOORIIIIIIIII--
Hold on.
Was that blackface? In a 2010 movie?
W--What? (·•᷄ࡇ•᷅ )
Wait. Maybe the folklore explains it, and it's just like soot from the chimney or something? Yeah, that has to be it!
Let's see here...

Watched a screening at the Roxy Theatre followed by a live podcast by Klokslag 12.
In my memory it was better than it actually is but still manages to entertain throughout. But yeah, definitely a schlocky film which was surprisingly small in scope although it's supposed to take place in Amsterdam. Evil Saint Nick only seems to target the same group of "late twenty-year olds supposed to represent high school teens" instead of showing us the carnage of a hinted bloodbath in Amsterdam.
Opening as a period piece where we see Saint Nick (Huub Stapel) pillage and plunder villages with his pirate henchmen. An angry lynch mob burns them all creating a curse in which the Saint and his scorched…
4th Dick Maas (after Amsterdamned, The Lift and Down)
Part 3 of Naughty and Nice Christmas
Ah, now this more like my type of Christmas film. A tongue in cheek attitude towards the staid demands of tradition, lots of gore and a lively sense of fun. Here, it's the legend of Ol' Saint Nick, usually a figure of good fun (he's where we get some of the imagery for Father Christmas from) and presents, here turned into a monstrous revenant who was burned alive for his wickedness and now is revived every 5th of December for general mayhem and dismemberment. Because it's Maas, it's very much Hollywood by the Amstel, complete with whip pans, dramatic action editing and a propulsive…
I saw this when it first came out and thought it was ok. I definitely think I enjoyed it more now than I did then, even though like most people, I watched the English dubbed version.
Didn’t realize it was from the same guy who blessed us with Amsterdamned until tonight so that was a fun connection and listen I’m just happy to see a competent Christmas horror movie and a killer Saint Nicholas (Niklas here) is a pretty badass antihero.
There’s some blackface in this since part of the legend involves a character called Black Pete and it’s wild to see something like that in a movie that was only made 12 years ago. We’ve come a long way…
I've watched this wonderful Christmas horror film every single year since it first came out. I find it so wickedly entertaining.
It's funny and suitably gory as the zombie like Saint Nicholas (Who looks uncannily like Tobias Forge from Ghost) rides his undead horse along rooftops slaying anyone who gets in his way.
Shot in Amsterdam by Amsterdamned director Dick Maas, the film distorts the tradition of Sinterklaas, turning him and his followers into vengeful ghosts and whilst it's not in the least bit scary it is one hell of a fun ride.
A delightful descent into Christmas mayhem as this Dutch black comedy horror turns the popular traditions of Sinterklaas and portrays him as a corpse like figure who goes on a bloody rampage when his annual celebration night of December 5th coincides with a full moon.
Shot in Amsterdam by Amsterdamned director Dick Maas, this is a wildly entertaining ride. It's funny and suitably gory as the zombie like Saint Nicholas (Who looks uncannily like Tobias Forge from Ghost) rides his undead horse along rooftops slaying anyone who gets in his way, aided by his band of undead Black Pete's.
Maas, a man of many talents, also composed the soundtrack and i absolutely adore the end credits music, beginning as an…
On holiday just now but we've had a rainy day, so had a look at the downloads on my tablet. Some of the usual pitch black humour from Dick Maas seemed to fit my mood. In 1492 St Nicholas and his "gang" is more concerned with looting and murder, that is until the local villagers take their fiery revenge. Now every 23 years on 5th December, the Sinterklass tradition, on a full moon, Amsterdam is plagued by a murderous rampage by the ghostly St Nick, who also snatches up the city's kids. Student Frank (Egbert Jan Weeber), just dumped by his girlfriend Sophie (Escha Tanihatu),gets caught up in the yuletide mayhem, along with tightly wrapped Amsterdam cop Goert (Bert Luppes),…
Saint is a pretty cool twist on the holiday horror. It features a killer Santa Claus, but not in the usual madman in a costume way. This guy is the real deal -- a ghost based on the character and tradition who rather than waiting till Christmas to start his murders, sets out for a full moon on December 5th. Unique as ever, a Dutch genre film worth watching. Really enjoyed the present day cast and the action and how they used folklore as a storytelling device. Could've done without the blackface, poor CGI and jumpscares, though.
