Every time I come across a movie title in my endless search of watching as many extreme horror flicks as I can certain things add fuel to the excitement of watching it such as:-
▪️Endless search on the internet to find it.
▪️Making sure that it's not dubbed or has any other quality-based issues.
▪️Ensuring that the download link is good so that it doesn't fail around 80% or 90% because this is the range that boils my piss. But fuck this because it's always 5 to 6 tries or even more when the download is successful.
▪️UNLESS THE FILE IS CORRUPT, THEN YOU GO THROUGH THE ENTIRE PROCESS…
A refreshing original French claustrophobic horror film, almost like the French version of "Evil Dead." Additionally, considering its small budget, the visual effects are surprisingly decent.
As part of the New French Extremity genre, I expected it to be more disturbing though 🤷♂️
pretty decent film with a very interesting concept. i only wish it had been a lot darker than it was.
PYP2025 Day 13: Trapped like a Rat 🐀
Four convicts in a French prison find a Satanic book in the wall and start reading from it, and everytime they continue to read from it bad shit happens, BUT THEY KEEP READING FROM IT ANYWAY BECAUSE THESE DUDES ARE LEAN ON SENSE AND HAVE THE IMPULSE CONTROL OF A WIND UP CAR. It’s a recipe for greatness.
Interesting characters, to the point I wish this had been more of a character study than some lukewarm occult shenanigans (me and who, though? 😉). Still, we get some moments of excellent body horror, even if the story could have really soared with a bit more tightening and elaboration. There was so much I wanted to know more about, but it was still a nice time! Chef’s kiss of an ending.
For some time this film which I had bought in DVD format in 2018 in a drawer without being able to see it. I have skipped over and over for laziness to it but I consider it was time to avoid it and watch it. Now that I think about it, maybe if it should have been kept, it would seem that something inside me wasn't so wrong about Maléfique after all.
The film outlines that famous saying "be careful what you wish for because it can come true", the plot is about four cellmates, Carrère,a businessman accused of fraud. Marcus, a transsexual in the process of metamorphosis. Pâquerette, mentally retarded, and Lassalle, the oldest, the intellectual murderer of his…
Day 24. Happy 18th Janus.
Prison, what a great place to plant a book of black magic. Hellraiser missed a trick here.
Who needs a chat 'on the bowl' when you can be playing with black magic and reaching your hearts desire. Sooooo your hearts desire
That last one, I held my hand over my mouth til the credits finished. I couldn't be happier.
they’re eating brie… in jail… that is so french
"Maléfique" was a somewhat surprising, if unfulfilling, movie.
The plot was definitely interesting/intriguing, with a few quirks along the way. The movie has a weird and eeriness about it. A strange aspect was how the prison seemed more like an hotel, in a few moments lol
I thought the acting was quite solid. Characters were well defined and better performed.
The movie wasn't overly long, though there seemed to be a few pacing "stumbles" here and there.
Enjoyed the dark vibe to it and the effects were neat.
Though there seemed to be a few inconsistent moments, there were also a few more remarkable and nifty ones, with some gore and creativity combined. I think some more substance would have…
Malefique is a unique french horror film that takes place almost entirely in one dark n dusty jail cell. Four very eccentric prisoners find a book that deals with black magic. They decide to use it in order to escape from prison but things don't go as planned.
The characters here are vastly different from your typical tough guys in jail. They are more likely to end up in an asylum imho. The toughest of the group is the drag queen Marcus who happens to have real boobs(never explained). Then there's Marcus's mentally challenged buddy Paquerette(sounds like Pac Rat) who likes to eat everything: watches, dolls, insects, his own baby sister. We have Lasalle, the smartest of the group, he…

3. Watch a movie from 2002.
I'm surprised this held my interest as long as it did. Taking place in a small 12x12 prison cell for 99% of the film, with the same four people locked within, and a story that doesn't really start to move 'till the half way point. It's a very minimal movie, so slow paced in it's plotting. But nevertheless the mystery of the black magic diary, and the eventual fate of the four (...well three) main characters was enough to hold my attention.
It turns out that if you find a magical diary that contains a multitude of spells that only do harm, thinking that book is your…
"Fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again."
I've never seen such a conga line of absolute buffoons volunteer to get monkey's pawed into oblivion. This is one of those films I feel like I have a ton to say about because so much is wrong, but I'm just sort of baffled into submission. Let's try to take it from the top, I guess.
So this is a (nearly) single room horror movie. For Hooptober's one location criteria, I decided to push it to the limit. I'll be the first to acknowledge that the confines of a small prison cell puts limits on the horror possibilities, and…
Claustrophobic character driven tale about dark magic and being careful what you wish for. Somber, tense, and occasionaly quite violent. The tight confines create a structure that allows the action to unfold at a consistent pace while each inmate slips further into madness revealing not only their lurid past but also the twisted fates that await them. Interesting story, scripted and delivered well. Doesn't quite stick the finish but entertainining enough to make it a worthwhile recommendation.
