well it's a good thing our government is super competent right now because otherwise we might be in trouble.
When Rebecca Ferguson is not on screen, all the other characters should be asking "where's Rebecca Ferguson?"
I just don’t have time for this kind of shit anymore. And America doesn’t have the dignity that this film tries—and fails—to give it.
This film is a great example of how we as a country are deluded into believing that we’re the center of the universe. We are the only people with families. We are the only people who drink coffee and breathe air and have emotions. Just us and no one else. It’s ridiculous.
The first act of this film is genuinely phenomenal, throwing you right into the plot and making you attached and invested in the plot and characters immediately. It unfortunately loses more and more steam as the film progresses though, with the narrative structure continuously rehashing plot points. This results in a very anticlimactic ending that doesn’t reflect the quality of the first part of this movie.

The president weighs a retaliatory nuclear strike and starts talking about a thing he heard on a podcast one time
Really well cast and occasionally quite propulsive but it is objectively hilarious to ask the question “what if 18 minutes was 35 minutes and also you saw it three times”

Hey Angel Reese would you like to be in a movie with Idris Elba? He plays the President of the United States and you make a cameo as yourself a few hours before being incinerated in a nuclear holocaust.
A movie about the end of the world that had me in zone out city by the third time through the same twenty minutes. Worst of all it never really shoots it shot and leaves the viewer and the city of Chicago waiting and wanting more! I don't know why, but I expected more from a movie about nuclear war from Kathryn Bigelow.
This is one of a number of recent movies that are more or less about people watching and experiencing unimaginable horrors through computer screens, but being completely powerless to do anything about it. Not sure what's up with that, but it's probably nothing.
The first and hopefully only movie where a pivotal line of dialogue, the one that contains the title of the film, begins with a character (in this case, the President of the United States) saying “I listened to this podcast…”
Tracy Letts absolutely born to play the role of “general who advocates for a preemptive strike”
