BFI Player Plus is a subscription service for watching movies in the UK. Rather than going for quantity, their aim is to select quality films that get the stamp of approval from the British Film Institute. As a way of highlighting some of those choices, renowned British film critic Mark Kermode provides short introductions to a weekly movie pick, listing reasons for why it stands out.
When available, I put the short blurb they give for each introduction in the notes, and I'm trying to keep this list up to date with new additions.
If you're in the UK (or can get your browser to pretend you are), you can watch the introductions here without a subscription: player.bfi.org.uk/subscription/kermode-introduces
