While it’s easy to label caste, religion, poverty, prejudice against identities as systemic injustices, the most unsettling part is realising that every one of these systems were man made, fed and sustained even today by the very society that claims to be progressive. Wonder if there is really anything to feel pride about.. be it tradition, culture, race or even language, when people from every group still play a part in them.

Homebound digs right into this discomfort. Neeraj Ghaywan mirrors the harsh reality with empathy and honesty, with no preachiness whatsoever. The movie explores friendship, family, migration and politics in a hard hitting emotionally powerful manner, neatly blending in social commentary with layered humane storytelling. Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa anchor the drama and deliver career defining performances, while Janhvi Kapoor though in a limited role, leaves a sharp impact. One deeply affecting watch that is highly recommended.

So strange that life goes on after finishing a film like homebound.

WTF man, I can’t handle this film. This shit broke me in a way I’ve never felt before.
Caste se kya fark padta hai, gandu? Samne insaan hota hai baat khatam. Apna caste system leke gand me daal lo.

Sometimes you don’t need a detailed review, you don’t need to talk about cinematography or music or performances.
Some films just punch you so deep in the soul that technicalities feel meaningless.

All I want to say is: thank you, God, for this life.
For a home where I can sleep safely.
For food on my plate.
For the chance to wake up without fear.
For a family that loves me.
I’m not a millionaire, I don’t have everything but whatever I do have, I’m grateful for it. Truly.

This film was beautiful, horrifying, haunting and devastating in a way that when it ended i wass still kept thinking about it.

as an aspirant myself and one who've seen most of the norms shown in this film firsthand, it ripped me apart. i tried so hard to hold my tears, to the point my body was literally shaking. people will always say nobody cares anymore, but where I come from, when you hear someone's last name, you'll see everyone mentally filling them into boxes, so my father changing my surname from ***** to 'Kumar' on all my official documents when i was kid is something I'll always thank him for. that single act saved me from all the societal toxic mess of casteism for life, gave me an invaluable ambiguity and the supreme power of being unlabelled. Now, my 'Kumar' is a mystery to them and all they are left with is a question that, am i going to be a success story who rose from a lower caste, or a reformer who stepped back from an upper one ?!

Ghaywan’s gut-wrenching masterpiece feels like the antidote we’ve needed all along. It reflects a nation breaking under fascism, casteism, and religious bigotry, while reminding us of the humanity we're in danger of losing and forces us to confront ourselves. The hardest part was pulling myself back together once the lights came on. The old lady beside me kept sobbing, her husband quietly comforting her as the rest of the audience left the cinema hall.

great movie! great performances!! is 3rd floor enough?

Honestly, nothing in the film shocked me. It’s the same stuff we walk past EVERY SINGLE DAY. We see it, feel bad for a minute, maybe get angry, talk about how unfair it is… and then five minutes later we’re back to our lives like nothing happened. We don’t actually do anything, because we’re so used to this kind of reality that it doesn’t even feel unusual anymore. And that’s exactly what the film shows, the everyday mess we’ve all learned to ignore without thinking.
