I am just so jealous of Malayalam filmmakers .. the courage , the audacity and the amazing discerning audience of Kerala that empowers the filmmaking .. I am so insanely jealous .. and Mammooty .. what has he done .. next on the list is Kathal ..
The best yugam for any ikka fan is this 🥹💗🔥. Eyegasm and eargasm 👀👂💦
A neat and clean movie where nobody is above the script no subplots or deviations, the black and white aesthetics really helped the movie as most of the sets , costumes makeup and everything could've been distracting but here everything just blends in beautifully. Rahul really knows what he's doing and I must say he's an excellent director with a clear vision of what he wants and it shows. Cinematography 🥵. The soundtrack was really cool , the minimal and correct usage of the scores really enhanced the scenes. Loved the art design and prosthetics. Really gave off creepy vibes . The dialogues and accents used…

Bramayugam, in a way, is the timely response to a lot of annoying bs Mollywood has been facing as of late.
First and foremost it shuts down the muthashi kadha copium. Turns out you don't need the director to have a press conference to let the audience know that the movie indeed doesn't have a Ferrari engine and is a slow-paced story that takes its time.
മലയാളി പ്രേക്ഷകർക്ക് എന്ത് വേണം, അവർ എന്ത് കാണും എന്നതിന് അടുത്ത ഉത്തരം. As long as it is interesting,

Ah yes Mammootty in folk horror is something I'd never ever expect to watch that too theatrically. Man he is like 72 and still pulling off performances like these such a beast of an actor, Undeniably one of the greatest Indian actor.
Rahul Sadasivan totally succeeded in transporting the audience into the cynical and eerie world of 17th century Bramayuga beyond Kaliyuga. Although I've seen twists coming , there are some meticulous foreshadowing done like how they emphasized the Spider weaving it's web of trap shot many times and the dice game commentary and some more clever allegories showing the predicament of the protagonist. Also there's constant power struggle between all three main characters. The Dilapidated mansion added with that…

The folklore horror mystery from Rahul Sadasivan is solidly atmospheric and gets brilliantly layered, exploring the dynamics of caste- power- morality through a fascinating blend of fiction, myth and reality. Amping the watch further is the brilliant production design, stunning monochromatic visuals, chilling music and sound design. Mammootty is simply outstanding. You can throw in all the adjectives out there. The man is just slaying it at 72. Arjun Ashokan and Siddharth Bharathan were equally commendable. The drama does demand your attention, but once you buy in to its slow suspenseful build up, it definitely ends up a highly rewarding cinematic experience.
A PASSAGE TO INDIA II: ATTACK OF THE SPICE
A plunge into the depths of hell, a mesmerizing nightmare in which dread is inevitable and the horror awaits, not in the form of a repulsive monster, but a wolf dressed in sheep’s clothing as we try to escape from this maze of horrors. Beautiful chanting, melodies of mermaids will not appease the devil that have us locked, caught in this esoteric web.
Mammootty as the demon is brilliantly terrifying and menacing; its corpulent figure is a thing of nightmares, a skin-crawling performance. Arjun Ashokan as the audience surrogate conveys to perfection the paralyzing fear one will feel if they were also in his shoes. The eyes are always wide open,…
A superb take on Bram Stroker’s Dracula with top notch filmmaking. Mammootty is phenomenal and takes the film to a whole new level.
Bramayugam is likely to be the first Black and white film experience for most of us from this generation. But first things first, the black and white format is not just a gimmick. It has paramount importance, both narrative wise and with regard to creating an immersive experience. Bramayugam blends folklore and horror to create a terrifying atmosphere where almost every moment is an event.
Bramayugam as an allegory on power and how it can corrupt absolutely. The three central characters of the film feel like three classes that are constantly at loggerheads with each other. Rahul Sadasivan builds this allegory in an eerie universe that’s as disturbing as it is hypnotic. The story unfolds during Bramayugam, a period when…
Mammootty is 72 years old now. He was 43 when he did Vidheyan. He was 38 when he did Aavanazhi. Other than having an upgrade there’s nothing different from the acting he did at his early years. Unsurprisingly, the nuances, the pace of his voice, and his gestures are different. Man wasn’t lying when he said “iniyum thechal iniyum minungum”. You’ll have to be massively passionate about cinema to pull this off at the age when most of the people at the same age find time to relax in an easy arm chair (unironically ikka also sits in an arm chair doing his job, ie acting). Mammootty characters are never associated with nostalgia. we are always witnessing something new. The…

An era of madness. Bramayugam is slow and eerie, a film of horror that relies less on shock and more on a series of calm revelations about the disturbed world we are witnessing. It has many traits of a classic historical horror movie, though it is also a distinctively Indian folk horror. Myths come to life and characters exist on the thin line between the real world and the one of the spirits. Bramayugam has a rich sense of history, captured by gorgeous black-and-white visuals. The story is essentially confined to three characters and one location, but it feels grandiose and expansive. This is a film about being trapped but the execution successfully tricks us into…
Okay this would have been a 5 star movie had it not lost it's momentum towards the end but holy f**k this might be the closest we have got to experience some A24 kinda horror movie experience or for that matter something close to tumbbad maybe.
Technically amazing movie carried by mammooty with an absolute stellar performance.
Like I said it would have been a perfect one if not for some momentum it loses.
The background score is another positive aspect for the movie and using black and white is the best decision to make the movie seem more haunting.
