When the situationship was so bad it brings you closer to your mother
The relationship of mother and daughter as something perpetually in flux. Male validation, regardless of generation, bred through societal structures. Girls Will Be Girls offers a gradual revelation on the complexities of the maternal dynamic. How mother and daughter perpetually reflect one another as embodiments of what they might become and what they could have been respectively. The final minutes are so overwhelming tender, especially thanks to how effectively the story endears Mira, and her mother, to us in the runtime beforehand.
It’s about girlhood it’s about mother-daughter relationships it’s about being horny asf it’s about young love it’s about school it’s about patriarchy it’s about feminism it’s about coming of age it’s about everything.
