you know who’s not picking a random ass demonic-looking circular board in the woods (me)
I’m a Chuck Russell fan and he’s proved he can make a great film. Sadly, this is not one of them. Madison Iseman was great and this has a few moments but it’s entirely too long, not campy enough to be be considered camp and the CGI is extremely off putting and just bad. Anytime this started feeling like a descent movie, I was pulled out with how bad the effects were. Aside from that there’s also no real connection or even an effort to make this a real reimagining of the original, and has no businesses even being called Witchboard in the first place. Very disappointing
r rated disney channel original movie (derogatory)
put madison iseman in more horror movies!!
All I'm saying is that at one point he takes a pic of his computer screen with his phone
Listen. I am a fan of the original movie but even I will admit it’s not technically a “good movie” per se, so I’m a little gagged by the 2.4 here?! I thought this was a terrific modern day b movie reimagining or whatever we’re calling it now!
I decided not to watch originals before remakes (or shortly after) because I don’t want it to skew my opinion of the remake since it is its own film. Therefore, I didn’t watch the og, but I remember enough of it. Tawny Kitaen, enormous hair, ouija board, bad shit happens. etc etc. There’s definitely a strong nostalgia element with the og, but I gotta do a hot take and say this was…
I’ll always root for the witch, so I’m not sure why this film is trying to convince me otherwise. I can see the potential in Witchboard. It’s maybe a few rewrites and a couple million dollars away from being a halfway decent movie. The dialog is truly unforgivable; it sounds like it was written by beta AI or as if it were outlined instead of scripted and left to the least capable actors in the world to improvise. It’s not only cringy, it often just literally doesn’t make sense. The CGI dates the film by at least five years. Still, none of this quite makes it so bad it’s good, it doesn’t make it camp. The plot, the score, and some performances are the bright spots, but those the near hits of this otherwise complete miss.
This film is clearly aimed at a younger audience, and the story and cast are proof of that. I didn't think it was bad, but I do feel it's a long way from being considered good, and I only consider it entertaining. While it's worth seeing this time of year, it won't be anywhere near this year's horror favorites.
Evil Guy with Glasses: Good girl. Now a good girl wouldn’t pull the trigger, but a junkie whore just might. Now what will it be.
How bizarre that I had a Weapons and Witchboard double feature which were both horror films that had a Langmore from Ozark. Shoutout Ruth and Wyatt man love seeing you guys thrive.
Apparently Witchboard came out in 2024 so that sucks for my list ranking 2025 horror films. But like it came out in the US this year? Does it count? What do you guys think. Like if you start a film at 11PM and finish after midnight, do you review it as the date you started or date you finished? Interesting stuff.
This film, however, is…
