Going into almost everything blind as I usually do, I have sat through yet another documentary instead of a fictional piece with an intriguing title.

That being said, this is a competent documentary... a few too many interviews for my liking, but still informative, and it did not feel like a reality show which is a beef I have with most recent docs.

It's hard to believe that so much of the science of both repressed and false (or planted) memories emerged during this time of incredulity and process of debunking improbable atrocities.

For those that want to experience real-life horrors... as a child of the 80's and 90's, I remember the era of Satanic Panic, how there were rumors of Satanic cults, heavy metal bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest were crucified (which like everything else in this mass hysteria, seems so absurd now), some were petrified of Dungeons & Dragons, and if you watched shows like Unsolved Mysteries, that was brought up as a possible cause way too frequently.

Haha. I was given the book ‘Michelle Remembers’ as a gift once with a note from my friend that said it’s all lies and complete trash but super fun. I read it and it was exactly that. It’s pretty amazing that it now has a whole documentary dedicated to it, and what’s even crazier is that the almost completely full cinema was filled with ppl talking about their own stories of reading this cult book. This was a real life experience for me seeing how there’s a group of ppl out there just like you who love the same things no matter how niche you may think your interests…
