The fact that the guy who directed this isn't even old enough to legally drink is actually insane
There are 2-3 bits in this that are among the most striking horror scenes of the decade, where you feel completely submerged in its liminal surroundings. Calling it just claustrophobic feels like a disservice - more suffocating. As with the original idea of the backrooms, the first hour and a bit is fully clouded by uncertainty, bridging the gap between psychological states and limitless passageways. There's one scene in particular that is found footage in its finest form, and had my body reacting in a variety of ways - I’m talking sitting up, heart rapidly beating, etc. Lots of eye-catching visual trickery for a first-time director too. Feels wonderfully restrained and patient. However, it never quite achieves those heights again.…
